POLLOCK FC 3 - 1 JOHNSTONE BURGH FC

Pollok Football Club moved back to the top of the Scottish Lowland Football League West table last night at a rain swept Newlandsfield in front of a crowd of 475 following an impressive 3–1 victory over Johnstone Burgh FC. Pollok are now unbeaten after 5 games into the season.

The home side made the perfect start and were ahead after just 10 minutes, setting the tone for what would become a confident and accomplished performance. Their advantage was short-lived, however, as Johnstone Burgh were gifted an equaliser following a costly mistake from the Pollok goalkeeper.

Pollok responded exactly as they would have hoped. Sustained pressure eventually paid off in the 21st minute, when they restored their lead with a superb finish from inside the six-yard box to make it 2–1.

That remained the score at the break, with Pollok deservedly in front after a strong first-half showing.

The second half continued in much the same fashion. Pollok played with real confidence across the park, while defensively they remained organised and composed, dealing comfortably with the majority of Johnstone Burgh’s attacking threat.

The decisive third goal arrived in the 65th minute. Johnstone Burgh lost possession in a challenge just inside their own half near the halfway line, allowing Pollok to break quickly. The Pollok player drove forward into space before calmly slotting the ball past the Burgh goalkeeper to extend the lead to 3–1.

Things then went from bad to worse for the visitors when the Johnstone Burgh manager was shown a straight red card following remarks made to the referee.

In the end, it was a thoroughly deserved victory for Pollok. They worked hard throughout the 90 minutes, played with confidence and intensity, and consistently frustrated a Johnstone Burgh side who struggled to gain any real control of the contest.
